Esrar Mongie has a wealth of experience in the building industry, having worked over 20 years on projects ranging from small homes in Cape Town to office buildings abroad.
Esrar began studying the technicalities of building in 1997, when he studied for a ND in building at the Cape Technikon and completed a Project Management Diploma at Varsity College. He officially began his career in 2001, assisting a German-owned company with the completion of Leeuwendal Flats in Gardens and several residential renovations.
In 2004, Esrar joined Murray and Roberts as a Foreman on a mega project in Century City. This project was the first of its kind – named The Island Club, this development entailed the building of 445 apartments, phase 1 to phase 2, and Esrar was quickly promoted to Senior Foreman as the development progressed seamlessly.
Seeing the value of gaining international construction experience, in 2007 Esrar landed a job working on the British High Commission offices in Sri Lanka. This memorable experience was invaluable for Esrar, as it required that he manage local laborers and deal with off-site consultants in Dubai to make the project a success.
On his return to South Africa, Esrar worked with Faircape as a Site Manager on The Boulevard in Woodstock, another unique project involving seven office buildings. After The Boulevard was complete, he joined Matla Projects to work on The Pepper Club Hotel which was completed on deadline for the soccer World Cup in 2010.
Always fascinated by alternative construction methods, Esrar joined Aquapod, a modular construction company, where he managed the installation of bathroom pods for a large UCT residence project. Following the success of that project, he continued with Aquapod’s parent company, the Inside Group, installing German kitchens and BIC’s.
In 2012, Esrar joined NMC as a Site Manager building a distribution centre and regional office block for British and American Tobacco and a cold store for the Britos Group. He also completed an office block in Century City, Waterview Offices, which was followed by a tenant fitout for RCS. More recently he was involved with completing the concrete structure of a shopping centre in Somerset West, The Sanctuary.
Esrar saw a gap in the construction industry for a reliable renovations company and founded Cape Renovations.
